Stanford University was founded in 1885 by Leland Stanford, the former governor of the US Senate of California and led by the railroad tycoon, and his wife Jane Stanford’s grandfather, in memory of the only child, Leland Stanford Jr., who died of typhoid fever at the age of 15 Stanford University opened Stanford University on October 1, 1891 to this mixed and non-sectarian institution. The 107 NCAA Championship has won most of the University II, the University has 476 individual championships, most of them in the first section, and has won the NACDA Management Cup, “recognizing the University as the best achievement for the general sports team each year since 1994-1995.

The main campus
Stanford University is located on the 8,180-acre (3,310 hectare) campus in the San Francisco Peninsula, in the northwestern part of the Santa Clara Valley (Silicon Valley) about 37 miles (60 km) southeast of San Francisco and about 20 miles (32 km) Northwest of San Jose. In 2008, 60% of this land remained undeveloped. The main campus next to Palo Alto, bordered by Il Camino Real, Stanford Street, Junipero, and Sand Hill Road. The University also operates in several remote locations.
The main campus of Stanford is the census-designated place within the individual county of Santa Clara, although some of the University’s territory (including the Stanford Shopping Center and Stanford Park Research) is within the limits of the city of Palo Alto. The campus also includes many unincorporated land in San Mateo County, as well as within the boundaries of Menlo Park (Stanford Hills), Woodside, and Portola Valley.
